End of Season Awards Dinner

Good Times!Belatedly I have finally got round to uploading the pictures from our End of Season dinner, below you will find some of the more entertaining pictures and a link to the full gallery. On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank everyone who came and hope you all enjoyed the night. We’d also like to thank Rob Jones and his bandmates for providing the entertainment, they were superb on the night.

Onto the awards and it was hotly contested in the First XI between Navaid Akhtar and Rob Gibson, both were consistent performers throughout the season. Nav took home Player of the year for his 52 wickets and 594 runs in both the league and cup. Gibbo didn’t go home empty handed as he scooped 1st XI Performance of the Year for his tremendous 125* against Chorleywood II, where special mention should go to Daniel Willoughby for his 42 in their 116-run partnership for the 9th wicket.

In the absence of skipper Rob Dunn, Smithy presented the Second XI awards for Player and Performance of the year. Player of the Season went to Simon Godfrey for his leadership of the 2nd XI bowling attack. He twice took wickets with the first ball of the innings and returned career best figures of 8-33 against Welwyn Garden City IV. The second XI performance of the year might have gone to Simon for that day but instead Smithy chose to reward another young player for the efforts in the early part of the season, Paul Lissowski scored 95 against Sandridge II in which he shared an opening partnership of 165 with Andy Vernon.

Jon Mackman rewarded two members at opposite ends of their cricketing careers, Kirit Shah took home Player of the Season for his consistency with bat at the top of the order which helped the 3rd XI achieve mid-table safety, he ended with 306 runs with a best of 61 against Chipperfield Clarendon IV. Performance of the Year went to ‘Lord Charles’ Whitebread for superbly built innings of 42, but this was also reward for his overall performance in this his debut season in senior cricket.

There was also an award for Clubman of the Year which went to Jonathan Mackman, once again Jon worked tirelessly for the club in his role as Secretary, 3rd XI Captain and general volunteer and we thank him for his efforts. There was also a Champagne bottle presented to Sue who halfway through the season took over providing us with tea on Saturday afternoons, they were wonderful and if there is anyway we can convince her to continue next year then please let us know.

Finally, on the night a craze took over the dance floor which saw many first & second XI players partake in ROFLing, but this was topped when our President Mark Chennery joined them, and I’m glad to say we have photographic evidence, enjoy the off season and we look forward to seeing all of you next year.
