OEs battled bravely against Breachwood Green in the second fixture of the Sunday League season, coming up narrowly short.

The Breachwood Green openers walked out to bat on a sunny afternoon at Gypsy Corner, fresh from a big win at Hitchin the previous weekend. George Whitebread took the first steps towards ensuring that there would not be a repeat, taking the first wicket with a inswinger. Despite this, good progress was made by the batsmen over the first ten overs. Simon Godfrey rattled the game into life with 3 wickets in 4 balls in an emphatic triple wicket maiden. He was supported ably by Ewan Lodge, making an exceptional debut in adult cricket. The young left armer was desperately unfortunate not to take a wicket, beating both the outside edge and hitting the pads with regularity. OEs stemmed the runs effectively in the last fifteen overs as the Chairman added another two wickets to his season's total and Sam Lodge ably partnered his brother at the death.

OEs made a positive start with the bat as the young pairing of Jonscher and Sam Lodge went out to face. After Sam’s unlucky dismissal, Simmo took an attacking approach, peppering the boundary throughout his 45. The game looked on throughout with contributions right down the order. Henry anchored the innings fantastically, ending up 70*. He was nominated for the second successive week as the man of the match for OEs. A very solid team performance from everybody on a Sunday afternoon where the colts came again to the fore!

Breachwood Green 209-8 [40 overs] Godfrey 3-43
Old Elizabethans 179-6 [40 overs] Jonscher 70*
