Sunday side pick up first win of the season away to Breachwood Green

Having had an exciting game of selection musical chairs throughout the week, the boys travelled with probably the strongest side of the season so far. The journey, however, proved somewhat longer than the five minutes our late call up heroes had been promised. With threats of a sit down protest in the air the pressure on the toss was immense. Mercifully we were able to bat first.

Breachwood were able to pick up the early wicket of Tush, bringing Buzzer to the crease alongside Spence. Buzzer made batting on tough track look almost embarrassingly easy, opening his scoring with a six that was still rising as it made its way into the trees. He followed this up with a succession of brutally hit boundaries all around the wicket. Wickets fell regularly at the other end, many of the batsmen unlucky to be the victims of variable bounce. Buzzer kept his scoring up, reaching his 50 with the team only on 68. He was finally removed when caught for 70 on the long on boundary. Some late hitting from Luke and Kappa pushed the score upwards towards a final total of 143.

Harry and Kappa opened up well with the ball and were able to make effective use of the conditions, both beating the bat with regularity. Kappa took a first class seat on the fantasy points train with 4 wickets in a six over spell. He was backed up by some brilliant fielding as Buzzer, not content with brutalising the bowlers, was unlucky not to earn a wicket with a direct hit. Debutant Raj entered the attack and picked up two more wickets to keep OEs on top. Breachwood recovered well and were looking threatening as rain calmed both the pitch and the noise in the field. Key breakthroughs came from Lukey and Nav, removing the set batsman with the deficit sat at around 20. The tail was dismissed without further damage to complete a good day for the boys which we will be hoping to back up next week for the visit of Tewin.

Scores: Old Elizabethans 143 all out.
Breachwood Green 118 all out.

Key Performers: C. Busby 70, M. Heavey 4-17.
