We are delighted to announce that, after a thrilling final against Berkswell CC on Sunday, the Gunnersbury Gunns WCC ladies have been crowned winners of the National Club T20 Cup.
In very favourable batting conditions Berkswell batted first and looked like posting a total above 200 at the halfway point of their innings, but the Gunns bowlers kept taking wickets (Ruchi Venkatesh 2/17 off 4 overs) and slowed the run rate somewhat, which meant the required target was a not inconsiderable 185.
Cat Dalton (60) and Georgia Irving (18) got the Gunns off to a blistering start and after a slight wobble, Elsa Barnfather (46*) and Esther De Lange (42*) maintained the scoring rate with a superb partnership. An extremely well judged chase ended with Elsa hitting a four on the leg side to ensure victory with 3 overs to spare!
The Gunns become the only club to win this trophy twice! Congratulations to all at the club on this huge success and many thanks to all from OEs who went to cheer them on in the baking heat! A great time was had by all!
