SA: 128-8 (20) S.Gomes 3-16 OE: 129-3 (16.3) K.Hoq 47*

After the first win, hopefully you are able to refer to this report in an earlier post, and some refreshments, the team were asked to field again by Adelaide after OE’s lost the toss.

Anish and Gomes again had the ball, although this time Anish took a bit of tap with his first over going for 13 runs. Holland replaced him and fared not much better, however we were lucky to have Gomesy at the other end bowling wonderfully picking up 2 wickets in his first 3 overs, and finally finishing with figures of 3-16 from 4. Mahmood was clearly the strike player for Adelaide, and was looking dangerous before the returning Busby (unavailable for the first game due to his commitment to coaching children) cleaned him up first ball.

Kazi Hoq and Captain Saqi were then bought into the attack and caused trouble for the batsman who were unable to get anything too hefty away and bowled their 8 overs economically (Kazi 4-1-12-1) and pick up 4 wickets, 3 for Saqi. This spell also produced what will surely be catch of the season as Busby showed his full worth sprinting in and taking a low running catch, which must surely see Barnet cursing their luck of losing his services. Honourable mention must go to The Main Man, Edward Charles Kiddle for a wonderful catch off Saqi at backward point.

So here were OE’s chasing 129 for 2 victories in a day.

With Jimmy replaced by Busby, Tush, fresh off a first baller in the first game was asked to open with Shaikh and try to avoid a king pair! But first Shaikh got stuck into the bowling and took the first over for 17 and the second for 15 which meant OE’s were well in front of the run rate from early on. Tush got off the king pair with some lovely running and he and Shaikh opened up beautifully. As the first wicket fell, Shaikh caught at midwicket, Gomesy came in and hit his second ball for 6 before getting out the very next ball. Kazi again came in at 4 and swept and ran with great authority before Tush was the third man out. Busby entered at 5, and both he and Kazi got off the mark with maximums, Busby’s in particular was brutally large. These two looked in no trouble at all as they saw off the target with more than 3 overs remaining.

The only downside to this effort was Shelley’s injury which we hope doesn’t see him out of the game for too long!

2 from 2 and the OE’s song was in full swing.
