1. How is the knee and will it impact on your football skills during the warm-ups?
The knee is feeling good thank you, although when we make it into the start of the season, I am sure I will make excuses to turn 2s into 1s and then keep refusing to run the field. I think that watching Alex OC come back from many serious injuries to develop into world-class player Arsenal made I can use him as inspiration.
2. As an optician, you must have a great vision for the season. What do you expect to see?
Similar to our first team captain, I really want to see my team play with enthusiasm, a great spirit and with great intent. There is a wonderful blend in the club, and I look forward to leading us to a promotion challenge!
3. Who are your players to watch?
Throughout the season we will see a lot of different players in the twos, but certainly keeping wicket to Eddie Hildebrand and his all-round skills is exciting. Expecting many stumpings this year, and I may even read his wrongun at least once! Miles coming back fitter and stronger this year is brilliant. I can’t wait to see those lime green shorts in action. Also - the fact Sheldon has had a little bowl in Australia over the winter will certainly help his chances of selection this year. If he stays fit, there is a good chance he could get some overs in the team.
4. How is the team looking in preseason?
It’s looking good. Amal is back in training this season, and has (probably) a new stick - looking sexy! Looking forward to seeing many of the club members attend nets as the winter roles on. Experience and youth will see us to a good season I’m sure! Especially when it gets hot, we may need a few younger legs to get us around the field! Can’t wait to see how Shivam, Qasim and Sami Noor have wintered and how they will get on with a full season of adult cricket. Very exciting!
5. How has your captaincy developed in a year?
Year one I was trying to do everything different to the previous incumbent (my brother and DOC - Naveed Parkar) but now I realise that he was such a great motivator and someone I will try and emulate moving into my second season. I can genuinely say he is such an inspiration and someone who we should all look to as a leader of men!
6. What would you make you happier - a Liverpool unbeaten season or OEs 2s getting a promotion?
Without a doubt, taking part in an OEs promotion. It’s becoming a bit boring watching Liverpool this year, but the excitement of watching our twos in a last-over win in damp conditions in May will genuinely never be beaten...
