A day where temperatures managed to top 30 degrees meant that Captain Nav was destined to lose the toss and have the team inserted to the field. And this duly happened as the call of heads was met with groans, moans and a few tears as the boys took to the outfield.

With factor 50 applied, caps soaked in water and all admin complete, the boys bounced onto the field with the boundless energy expected from a team fielding 4 players aged 18 and below.

LSP making his ones debut was looking like cat who caught the fish when the captain made a bold statement early, by opening the bowling along with Buzzer.

Both Buzzer and Nav were very economical early on ensuring that the scoring rate in the opening 10 overs did not get above 3 at any point.

The first change bowlers of Zinni and Saqi followed up the excellent work of the openers, and began to strike. Saqi first getting the edge of the openers bat behind to Scutty, and the following over Zinni spinning one past the outside edge of the other opener. Saqi at this point was bowling a top class spell which caused many troubles to the batsman, cutting them up, playing and missing before a slower ball was beautifully pitched and was too good for the number 3.

LSP was given his first chance to bowl in the team and beat the edge a couple of times which was encouraging, before Holland replaced Saqi and began to weave his magic. First a catch by the returning Pricey and then one in the following over from Captain Nav saw Holland with a wonderful BPW return.

Nav was tying things down at the other end, and Holland struck again in his fourth over caught behind by Scutt, having just failed to lay a glove on the ball before. Captain got his reward for some tight bowling, with a great slip catch from Holland, and then a wonderful caught and bowled left the opposition in disarray. The captain of A&CH began to farm the strike, and launched Holland for a hit almost as big as Dolly’s arms, and thus start a period of the game where there were singles followed by a lot of blocking from the tail.

Saqi came on and saw to the number 10 before Buzzers pace was too much and a clapping Zinni took a good catch to end the A&CH inning at 143.

Tea was consumed and a lot of sugar and salt taken on board before Pricey and Kappa started the innings. Both looked in good touch, Kappa hitting one ball over extra cover for a one bounced four as a highlight of the opening stand before Pricey nicked off. Scutty in at 3 looked class hitting the ball uncharacteristically to the boundary frequently through the offside and moved to 20 all in boundaries. Kappa was unlucky to get one stuck in the pitch which was hit to point, and then Scutt having done the hard work gave a chance to the captain behind the sticks. Gomesy next in could not replicate his heroics of the previous week and soon a new partnership was definitely needed.

Paul and Nav set about counter attacking from a position of 85-4 and both looked in good touch punishing anything off line and hitting the boundary frequently. With 10 to win Nav picked out a fielder in the deep, and then Buzzer was out caught and bowled. A wobble with 6 to win has often been seen in the OE’s. However, Holland then joined Pablo in the middle and timed his fourth ball for 6 and took the 30 points back down the A1!

A great all round display from the boys, and we march on to Potton Town next weekend sitting second in the league.
