After looking at all of the weather apps and seeing the impending downpour, winning the toss was as important as ever. Heads was the call, tails is was and OEs were bowling first.
Early breakthroughs were crucial and that’s exactly what happened when a superb bit of fielding from David Bates at mid off with a clean pick up and direct hit sent the batsmen walking in the first over. Skipper Luke Sicheri-Peel (1-11) started as he left off last week with tight bowling and pressure building as he picked up the 2nd wicket of the innings with Zac Scott (1-15) picking up the 3rd to leave Hertford 13-3. The introduction of spin with Paul Lissowski kept up the wicket taking with Lissowski taking well earned 5fer (5-15). The first for the 2s this season. The fielding being as good as the bowling with James Michelin and Sean Price both taking smart catches. At 43-8 Hertford needed someone to show intent and a well made 26 by Samuel Pavey did just that. Qasim Ahmed (1-16) picked up Paveys wicket with his last ball of his allotment gave him the reward he deserved after 4 maidens. David Bates (1-10) finished the innings with the last wicket and ended a great fielding display. The 2s set 86 to win and had given themselves a chance to win with a rapid over rate.
With an hour before the rain arrived (thanks to weatherman James Michelin for the info) the batsmen had their task to chase the 86 as quickly as possible. Eddie Hildebrand fell early but the intent was evident with a flurry of boundaries by Paul Lissowski 22 (20) kept up the scoring rate. After his wicket James Michelin continued the pursuit of quick runs with an eventful 8 (4) before getting caught. Charlee Eve-Raw showed his good form, and batting prowess, with another impressive knock after his unbeaten 50 last week. He ended with 43* (23) and got the team to the winning target just in time as the rain came on time just 10 minutes after the close of play. Henry Jonscher (1*) did his season average no harm accompanying Eve-Raw to victory.
A dominant display from the team who move 4 points from 1st place and continue their great start to the season.
Player of the match: Paul Lissowski with an outstanding all round performance with figures of 5-15 and 22 runs. Well played sir.
