For the new 3s Captain, things could not have gone much better for Manni Canagalla on the opening day of the season. Winning the toss, he inserted Baldock, and their innings struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined OEs bowling display. The De Souza brothers opened the attack and gave little away. Opposition skipper Ranjit Rayat (33) provided hope for the visitors taking advantage of anything in his slot, but wickets fell regularly at the other end. The fielders supported their bowlers very well as proved by catches from Asim, Mani and a spectacular diving forward effort by Jack Scott!
Fernando provided runs down the order with a disciplined 30, but a superb and balanced performance from the OEs attack limited Baldock to 116 all out. Skipper Mani led with 3-27, Preetham chipped in with 2-25, Kirit 2-27, Jack 2-18, and Praveen 2-25.
Chasing a target of 117, it was important for the 3s to have a foundation to secure an opening day win, it is safe to say this was provided by Jimmy who delivered an unbeaten 80 runs off 68 balls, including 14 fours. The team achieved the target comfortably in 21.2 overs losing only one wicket.
Player of the match: Jimmy Heavey for his unbeaten 80 runs, steering the 3s to victory. #comeonyoueees!
