Olly Webster Shines on Gloomy Evening

On a gloomy evening Olly Webster led the U15Bs to a comfortable victory over London Maccabi.

Due dark clouds, the game was reduced to 17-overs per side to make sure we got a game in this early season fixture. OEs took to the crease first and set about building a target they could defend later. Jairaj led the charge before falling to a good catch in the covers, before his departure, Jairaj was well supported by Dan Harris (14) who with a mixture of good shots and excellent running helped keep the scoreboard ticking over. A few wickets fell in quick succession which brought Captain Oliver Webster to the crease who began cautiously before sending the ball to the boundary 8 times including several pull-shots. Oliver was retired on 35 having helped move the OEs score on, we finished on 101 from our 17 overs, a score we were very happy with.

Over to the bowlers where Guiliano Franzini & Luca Gazzi set the tone from the start. Guiliano gave nothing away in his opening two overs, which helped build the pressure that Luca took advantage of. In the 4th over, Luca's second, he took two wickets in two balls which was just reward for the excellent start. Star of the game Olly Webster came on in the 6th over and took what can only be described as catch of the season, the batsman drove a ball that seemed to be going passed Olly when he sprung to his left to reel the ball back in, it was incredibly similar to the one Trent Boult over the winter.

There was no let up from the U13Bs as there fielding proved impossible to breach, the Maccabi batsman were forced to take risky runs which resulted in two run outs, one each for James & Harrish.

The boys eventually ran out comfortable winners last night to start the season off brilliantly.
